I'll make it look better in the future I swear.
The title is taken from a Bible verse, the Ephesians 5:14 ("Awake, O sleeper, and arise from the dead, and Christ will shine on you"). This is the key to read this whole piece. I wanted to depict how the busy everyday life puts our souls to sleep and how we tend to drift away from God when we’re caught up in the mundane day to day reality. For me school’s rush, countless tests, essays, messy teen relationships were such reality. That’s why I made a collage out of my school worksheets, writings etc. around my head in the background. Japanese signs 光 and 生 meaning “light” and “life” are references to the Light-Life Movement — a Youth Group in the Catholic Church whose meetings were often a wake up call for me durning such times. The yellow and gold light in the corner is supposed to represent God’s presence. All I would have to do is open my eyes and slightly tilt my head to see Him in my life because He’s Emmanuel, a God with us.
